I was just watching the brigestone golf tournament in akron ohio when they showed a picture that appeared to me to be a swallow tailed kite...That seemed odd to me I was wondering if anyone saw that or knew what else it might have been. It was hawk sized and had a swallow split tail..I live in Florida and see them regularly but didnt think they had them in Ohio

Thanks for this description. I am looking at two of these right now at my birdfeeder in North Jersey. My bird knowledge is limited, and I thought maybe they were orioles, but they didn't match the picture. So, I googled "v-shaped red bib white breast bird" which led me to your post. Your description is an exact match.

A rose-breasted grosbeak (and a hungry one at that). Thanks again.

There is a flock of 18-20 siskins in my yard all day, everyday here in central South Carolina and today is April 10, 2009. Everyone says they shouldn't be here, but here they are!

It is so priceless to see you combining the use of a segway with birding! Creativity abounds among birders as always. I am delighted to learn that there are off-pavement segways available for farms as well. Minimum impact is my style but not always my capability. Thanks for sharing your sightings as well. I love the "cooperation is cool" post as well.
